1. Agreement and scope

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and the operator of Storyglot. They apply to the Storyglot mobile application, website, support services, Premium subscription, Community, and related features that link to these Terms, together called the “Service.”

By downloading, accessing, creating an account for, purchasing through, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you use Storyglot for an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and “you” includes it.

Your use of the iOS app is also subject to Apple’s applicable App Store terms and the Apple Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If these Terms conflict with mandatory App Store terms, the mandatory App Store terms control for that issue.

2. Eligibility and age requirements

You must be at least 13 years old, and at least the minimum age required in your country to consent to online services, to use Storyglot. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms and approve any purchase. You may use the Service only if applicable law permits you to enter this agreement.

Storyglot is a general-audience language-learning service. It is not directed to children under 13. A person under 13 may not create an account, use Community, purchase Premium, or otherwise use the Service. A parent or guardian who believes a child used Storyglot contrary to this section should contact us through the Support page.

3. Guest use and registered accounts

Guest use

Storyglot may let you begin reading as a guest. Guest use creates a random service identifier and may store progress locally or in a guest profile. Guest access is limited. Community and features that require durable cross-device identity are available only after you create or link a registered account. Guest data can be lost if you sign out, clear app data, lose the device, or fail to link the guest profile before changing accounts.

Creating and securing an account

You must provide accurate information, keep it current, and use an email address or sign-in identity you are authorized to use. You are responsible for activity under your account and for securing your device, email account, credentials, and recovery methods. Do not share access, sell an account, impersonate another person, or create accounts to evade a restriction. Contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

Usernames and profile information

Usernames must be unique and may be changed, reclaimed, or removed when reasonably necessary to address impersonation, infringement, inactivity, safety, technical constraints, or violations of these Terms. A username or display name must not contain misleading claims, contact information belonging to another person, hate or harassment, sexual content, threats, or unlawful material.

Account linking and sign-in

When you link a guest profile to a registered email account, that email becomes the method for accessing the linked Storyglot data. We may require reauthentication before sensitive actions such as account deletion, identity changes, or access recovery.

4. Storyglot Premium subscriptions

Key subscription terms: Premium is an automatically renewing subscription purchased through Apple. The exact price, billing period, trial terms, included features, and renewal terms shown on the App Store purchase screen apply to your purchase.

Purchase and access

Premium unlocks the features described on the paywall at the time of purchase, such as access to the paid story library and other listed subscriber benefits. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. Apple is the merchant of record and processes payment. RevenueCat helps Storyglot validate the transaction and maintain your entitlement.

Premium is for your personal, noncommercial use. Access is linked to the Storyglot account and Apple purchase used at checkout. You must sign in to the correct Storyglot account to use and restore the entitlement. Subscription access may take a short time to update after a purchase, refund, billing problem, or store outage.

Automatic renewal and cancellation

Your subscription automatically renews for the same period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple may charge your Apple Account for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period. To avoid the next charge, cancel through Apple subscription settings. Deleting your Storyglot account, signing out, or uninstalling the app does not cancel billing.

Free trials and introductory offers

If a trial or introductory offer is available, eligibility and duration appear before purchase and are controlled by Apple. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the subscription converts to a paid, automatically renewing subscription at the displayed price. Apple may restrict an offer to eligible users and may determine eligibility based on purchase history. Any unused portion of a trial may be forfeited when you buy another subscription where Apple’s rules so provide.

Prices, taxes, and price changes

Prices may vary by country, currency, tax, and storefront. The localized amount displayed by Apple at confirmation is the amount that applies. Apple may collect applicable taxes. Future price changes will be handled under Apple’s rules, including any notice or consent Apple requires. A price change does not give us access to your payment credentials.

Refunds, billing problems, and restoration

Apple controls billing and refunds for App Store purchases. Refund requests must be made through Apple Report a Problem, except where applicable law requires another remedy. Storyglot cannot issue an App Store refund directly. If Premium does not unlock after a successful purchase, use “Restore Purchases” in the app, confirm that you are using the intended Storyglot and Apple accounts, then contact Support with the non-sensitive transaction details requested there.

Expiration, refunds, and account deletion

Premium may become inactive when a subscription expires, a payment fails, Apple revokes or refunds the transaction, or we cannot validate an entitlement. If you delete your Storyglot account while subscribed, cancel through Apple first. Account deletion removes the Storyglot entitlement record and may prevent us from reconnecting a purchase to the deleted account. Statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.

5. Limited license and acceptable use

Subject to these Terms, Storyglot grants you a personal, limited, revocable, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to install and use the app and access the Service for your own language learning. The Service is licensed, not sold. You receive no ownership interest in the app, stories, translations, audio presentation, designs, databases, or other Storyglot materials.

You may not, and may not help another person to:

  • Copy, reproduce, republish, scrape, bulk-download, sell, sublicense, distribute, or commercially exploit Storyglot content except as law expressly permits.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, bypass, probe, or interfere with the Service, except to the limited extent a non-waivable law permits.
  • Circumvent access controls, subscription checks, content protections, usage limits, rate limits, or security measures.
  • Use bots, scripts, automated requests, or data-mining tools without written permission.
  • Upload malware, test vulnerabilities without authorization, disrupt infrastructure, or gain unauthorized access to accounts or data.
  • Use the Service to violate law, infringe rights, deceive others, facilitate abuse, or create a competing content or language-learning dataset.
  • Remove copyright, trademark, attribution, or proprietary notices.
  • Use Storyglot content or output to train, evaluate, or improve a machine-learning system without written permission.

6. Learning content, translations, and speech

Storyglot is an educational reading tool, not an accredited course, examination provider, translator for legal or official documents, or guarantee of fluency. Stories, vocabulary help, translations, difficulty labels, streaks, and progress indicators are learning aids. Language is contextual and may have multiple valid meanings. Content may contain errors, regional variations, idioms, or phrasing that does not fit every real-world situation.

Text-to-speech availability and voice quality depend on your device, operating system, installed voices, language support, and settings. Speech output may mispronounce words or be unavailable. Do not rely on Storyglot translations or speech for medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, immigration, contractual, or emergency decisions. Seek a qualified human professional when accuracy has material consequences.

We welcome specific correction reports through caden@cadenwurzbacher.com. Include the language, book, chapter, sentence, and suggested correction.

7. Community Rules

Community is meant to help registered learners connect around reading. These rules apply to usernames, display names, friend requests, shared activity, reports, and any other user-provided material or interaction.

Be safe and respectful

You may not use Community to:

  • Harass, bully, threaten, stalk, shame, or repeatedly contact someone who does not want contact.
  • Promote hatred or dehumanization based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, medical condition, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, or another protected characteristic.
  • Exploit, groom, sexualize, endanger, or solicit personal information from a minor.
  • Share sexual content, graphic violence, credible threats, instructions for self-harm, or content that encourages serious harm.
  • Impersonate a person or organization, misrepresent affiliation, deceive users, or coordinate manipulation.
  • Spam, advertise, solicit money, run promotions, distribute malware, phish, or collect account credentials.
  • Publish another person’s private information, including addresses, phone numbers, school details, exact locations, financial information, or private communications, without authorization.
  • Infringe copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights.
  • Coordinate illegal activity, fraud, or attempts to evade moderation or account restrictions.

Your controls

You can decline friend requests, remove friends, turn off reading-activity sharing, block accounts, and report concerns. Use these tools when appropriate. For an immediate danger or crime in progress, contact local emergency services. Storyglot support is not an emergency service.

Moderation and enforcement

We may review reports and relevant records, limit visibility, remove profile material, cancel friend relationships, restrict features, suspend or terminate accounts, preserve evidence, and contact authorities when reasonably necessary. Enforcement can consider severity, context, history, risk, and legal obligations. We are not required to monitor every interaction and cannot guarantee that every user is who they claim to be. If we take action in error, contact Support with enough information for review.

8. Ownership, user content, and feedback

Storyglot materials

The Service and its original software, visual design, trademarks, stories, translations, compilations, metadata, and other materials are owned by Storyglot or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property and other laws. “Storyglot” and associated branding may not be used in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation without permission.

Your user content

You retain any rights you hold in profile information, reports, correction suggestions, and other material you submit (“User Content”). You grant Storyglot a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, display, and otherwise process User Content only as reasonably needed to operate, secure, improve, and support the Service, enforce these Terms, and comply with law. This license ends when the content is deleted, except for content already deidentified and limited copies retained for legal, safety, or backup purposes.

You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit User Content and that it complies with these Terms. Do not submit confidential material or content you do not have permission to use.

Feedback

If you voluntarily provide ideas or suggestions about Storyglot, you permit us to use them without restriction or compensation. This does not transfer ownership of your personal information or User Content, and our use remains subject to the Privacy Policy.

Copyright concerns

To report material that you believe infringes copyright or another intellectual property right, email caden@cadenwurzbacher.com. Identify the protected work, the material at issue, its location in Storyglot, your contact details, your good-faith basis, and any authority to act for the owner.

9. Privacy and third-party services

Our Privacy Policy explains how Storyglot handles personal information. Apple, Supabase, RevenueCat, identity providers, device text-to-speech services, and external websites may have separate terms and privacy policies. You are responsible for reviewing third-party terms that apply to services you choose to use.

The Service may contain links to third-party resources. A link does not mean Storyglot endorses or controls that resource. We are not responsible for third-party content, availability, transactions, or practices, except where applicable law provides otherwise.

10. Service availability and changes

We work to keep Storyglot reliable, but the Service may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, network conditions, security events, provider outages, app updates, or circumstances outside our control. Offline content and device speech features may differ by platform. Internet access may be required for account, synchronization, purchase, Community, and updated catalog functions.

We may add, improve, replace, or discontinue features, stories, languages, Community functions, or supported platforms. We will not intentionally remove paid access during an active subscription in a way that violates applicable consumer law. The exact catalog can change as content is added, corrected, licensed, or retired. No purchase grants ownership of a specific story or guarantees that every language will always have the same catalog.

11. Suspension, termination, and account deletion

You may stop using Storyglot at any time. You can delete your account through Settings > Delete Account & Data. Account deletion is described in the Privacy Policy. Cancel Apple billing separately before deleting the account.

We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access when we reasonably believe you violated these Terms, created risk or legal exposure, failed to pay, abused users or systems, or when action is required by law. Where appropriate, we may provide notice and a chance to correct or appeal. We may act immediately for serious abuse, fraud, security threats, child safety concerns, legal requirements, or repeated violations.

Upon termination, the license in Section 5 ends. Provisions that by their nature should continue will survive, including subscription obligations already incurred, ownership, disclaimers, limits of liability, dispute terms, and permitted retention. Termination does not remove statutory rights or Apple refund rights.

12. Disclaimers and limits of liability

Service disclaimer

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Storyglot is provided “as is” and “as available.” We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, noninfringement, quiet enjoyment, and warranties arising from course of dealing. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation, complete security, specific learning results, perfect translations, universal device compatibility, or that every defect will be corrected.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions. Any mandatory warranties and consumer guarantees remain in effect to the extent they cannot lawfully be excluded.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Storyglot and those working on its behalf will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or opportunities, arising from or related to the Service, even if advised that such damage was possible.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Storyglot’s total liability for all claims related to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid to Storyglot through the App Store during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or US $50. This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot legally be limited, including liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable law so provides.

Your responsibility

To the extent permitted by law, you are responsible for losses and claims resulting from your unlawful use of the Service, your material breach of these Terms, or User Content that infringes another person’s rights. We will provide reasonable notice of a covered claim and allow reasonable participation in the defense. This section does not require a consumer to indemnify Storyglot where prohibited by law.

13. Terms required for Apple users

You acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Storyglot, not Apple. Storyglot, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content, subject to these Terms and applicable law.

  • Your app license is limited to use on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and applicable Family Sharing or volume purchase rules.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Storyglot. Contact Storyglot Support for app support.
  • If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple. Apple may refund the app purchase price, if any, as required by its terms. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation regarding the app.
  • Storyglot, not Apple, is responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability, regulatory, consumer protection, privacy, and intellectual property claims, subject to applicable law.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a United States government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and you are not on a United States government prohibited or restricted parties list.
  • You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app, including wireless data and App Store terms.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce this section against you.

14. Disputes, interpretation, and changes

Informal resolution

Before filing a formal claim, please email caden@cadenwurzbacher.com with a description of the issue and requested resolution. We will try in good faith to resolve it. This does not prevent either party from seeking urgent relief or using a regulator, small-claims process, or consumer remedy that cannot be waived.

Applicable law

These Terms are governed by applicable law without regard to conflict-of-law rules, while preserving any mandatory consumer protections and forum rights you have where you live. A dispute may be brought in any court or tribunal that has lawful jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms requires individual arbitration or waives a right that cannot lawfully be waived.

Interpretation

If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them as part of a lawful reorganization, financing, acquisition, or transfer of the Service, subject to applicable notice requirements. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the Apple terms that apply, and purchase terms shown at confirmation form the agreement about the Service.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes in the Service, providers, law, or risk. We will post the revised Terms with a new effective date. If a material change affects existing users, we will provide reasonable notice in the app or through another appropriate channel before it takes effect when required. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Service and cancel any subscription before the next renewal.
